For nearly 20 years, the Honda CB500, Kawasaki ER-5, Suzuki GS500 and other Yamaha XJ600 put the boot in footrest countless bikers. Today, two models are a delight for beginners (students of schools and youth motorcycle license): Kawasaki ER-6n and the Yamaha XJ6.
Lighter and less powerful than their big sisters Z750 and FZ8, Kawasaki and Yamaha are currently among the favorite of French bikes. In 2012, Kawasaki was even the best selling motorcycle in France, behind the Tmax but certainly before all the other bikes (read our Annual Review of the motorcycle market in 2012 ).
Admittedly, the update of the ER-6 (“n” for the roadster, “f” for its streamlined version) was profound and relevant last year: new frame, new swing, building low arm and midrange-twin, aesthetic “reverdie” and comfort were in the program.
Readers MNC – which, as everyone knows, have a bit more RAM than the other – remember that their motorcycle Journal du Net had been seduced by the agility of the ER-6n 2012, ease of handling , engine sound and more round, comfort up and racier look (read our MNC test the new Kawasaki ER-6n 2012: K off! ).
Unfortunately – for Kawasaki, not for journalists looking for negative and constructive criticism! – The friend Kawette failed to erase all its imperfections vibrations remain sensitive, adapter and engine power can leave some bikers on their hunger, the closure of the new saddle is not obvious and ABS option costs still too expensive (600 €).
Launched in 2009, the XJ6 has to impose distinct advantages to those of the ER-6, starting with the four-cylinder in-line derived from Fazer himself inherited the R6! During his Duel MNC against the Suzuki Gladius – output the same year – the small Yam ‘argued flexibility and lengthens its engine.

The suspensions of the XJ6 is also significant because they show all ensure the driver and his passenger eventual excellent comfort and outstanding efficiency. Among the “positives”, including MNC emphasized the excellent behavior of the front axle.
In contrast, little expressive midrange its engine had disabilities face shiny V-twin Hamamatsu, as well as its look too conventional, the gearbox a little rough and storage space under the saddle to embark a small U.
“The success of the XJ6 is related to the intrinsic qualities of the machine,” says Yamaha on, “namely its dynamic attributes of weight and performance not to mention ease of access for drivers in the learning phase thanks to its low seat height “(785 mm, Ed).
On average, Yamaha Motor France (YMF) states sell about 400 per year in the French XJ6 motorcycle schools, as much as with the Kawasaki ER-6. However, these figures are expected to increase this year, “with the fleet renewal after the regulation that allows for January 1, 2013 ABS versions,” said YMF.
Of course, Honda did not intend to let his opponents play only on this ground: besides the significant number of registrations at stake “market in the market” is critical for manufacturers …
The New Honda 2013
Need I remind you that under their shell leather and bad faith, the bikers are, in fact, very sentimental? Brand their first motorcycle will rooted in their hearts, if not in their memory, and resurface when moving to bigger. Hence the need for the Reds, Greens and Blues offer “the” ideal bike for beginners!
According to Honda, the new entry-level, the CB500F, precisely meets the needs of apprentices bikers, but also those of their schools. Among its strengths, the Honda France highlights is the price, a strong argument for both categories of customers mentioned!
Displayed in concessions in 5590 € (ABS series or 1509 euros less than the ER-6n ABS and XJ6 ABS), the CB500F is offered to schools bikes at a price “well positioned to € 4,490 tax and kit protection included, until September 30 “we reported Honda France.
According to the world number one, the new 2013 is also distinguished by its design – that MNC consider the following pages – its grip “particularly easy that will reassure the student immediately,” provide the Honda officials, as well as its to “very attractive” maintenance costs, thanks to revisions every 12000 km.
Lighter, cheaper and just as powerful as his sis NC700S (launched in 2012, read our comparative test MNC: Honda NC700S defies Kawasaki ER-6n and Suzuki Gladius ), the CB500F she means to dethrone the two references ” entry level “in France that are ER-6n and the XJ6?
