The motorcycle division of Germany will have new targets from 2014. To reach them, realigns their participation in sports competitions.
BMW Motorrad is continuing its long-term strategic realignment for the brand, which will also affect the activities of the division Motorrad Motorsport.
In this context, the division of BMW decided that at the end of the 2013 season, BMW Motorrad Motorsport finished as a manufacturer participation in the FIM Superbike World Championship.
The main focus and some of the resources of the brand’s commitment to the sport will change to other motorized activities such as international sports program for clients from 2014.
“BMW Motorrad Motorsport will end its participation in the World Superbike Championship after this season,” said Stephan Schaller, CEO of BMW Motorrad.
“This is consistent with the strategic realignment of our brand. BMW Motorrad will now focus on further expansion of the product portfolio of more than 500 cc, the expansion of product segments of less than 400 cc, electron mobility, and in the development of market potential in emerging economies such as Brazil and Asia. Only those who act with consistency today are well prepared for the challenges of tomorrow, “stated Schaller.
Meanwhile, Andrea Buzzoni, general manager of BMW Motorrad WSBK, said “I regret the decision, but I understand.”
BMW Motorrad Motorsport joined the FIM Superbike World Championship in 2009. Reached 11 wins in racing and a total of 33 finalists on the podium with the racing version of the BMW S 1000 RR.
The most successful season so far was 2012, when BMW finished as the pointer in the classification of both manufacturers and fought for the title of the manufacturers and brokers until the last race.
