The C50Special Edition boasts a fuel-injected, 805cc, 45-degree, V-twin engine that cranks out an abundant amount of torque down low and matched by exciting top-end performance. The C50 Special Edition model arrives with a pair of cast aluminum wheels.
The middleweight Boulevard C50 is powered by a liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 803cc 45-degree V-twin with an offset dual-pin crankshaft and shaft drive. It is offered as a black-only base model ($8,399), as the special edition tested here ($8,799), which adds two-tone paint and cast instead of wire-spoke wheels, and as a touring model ($9,599), with a windshield, saddlebags, passenger backrest and two-tone paint.
Whereas the Kawasaki Vulcan and Star V Star are dressed in black, the Honda Shadow is the Suzuki’s stylistic cousin, sharing its affinity for full fenders, chrome and white/silver livery. The Honda and Suzuki are also the only bikes here with rear drum brakes—a cost concession that’s a real blast from the past!

The suspension units are, doubtlessly, aide by the high profile tires (16-inch front and 15-inch rear). The fat tires give the Boulevard C50 a solid grasp of the road, so you can move about town with confidence.
Weighing in at over 600 pounds, the Boulevard C50 isn’t a lightweight, but the mass is down low and it has more than enough agility when dicing with automobiles. Wide bars definitely help in manhandling the bike, though they do make lane splitting (legal her in California) a bit trickier.
The 45-degree, liquid-cooled Suzuki V-twin has enough torque to pull the bike around with authority, and there is overrev for when you need to make a pass and you don’t have time to work the heel/toe shifter mechanism. For cruising, the five-speed transmission works well; shifts are easy and sure.
